About Hope in a Basket
“He is not a Muslim who goes to bed satiated while his neighbor goes hungry.”
ONE IN SIX kids in the Central Florida community are at risk of going to bed hungry tonight.
Hunger is a very real problem in our own community. At this time of a global pandemic when families have lost their jobs, have less income and may be struggling with their health, this aid is vital.
Over a Decade of Providing Hope
Every year, the Muslim Women’s Organization distributes aid to bring some joy and hope to Central Florida families in need. Hope in a Basket began in 2011 as a partnership between MWO and the Heart of Florida United Way for the US Department of Education’s Together for Tomorrow initiative linking local faith-based charities with Title 1 schools in need. From 100 packages in 2011, over the past decade it has grown to provide food for 500 families annually.
This year, your donation will provide $50 grocery gift cards instead of past years’ $30 gift cards or the traditional bags filled with grocery items. We understand that the cost of groceries has increased and wanted to increase the gifts accordingly. These gift cards will be distributed through partner schools from Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties. We will be adding appreciation gift baskets to the school staff for everything they do with their students, and treat bags for each family.
