Women's Action Network: Storytelling Session 1

  • Muslim Women's Organization 2813 S. Hiawassee Road, Suite 103 ORLANDO United States (map)

The Women’s Action Network is an opportunity for Muslim women leaders from Central Florida to connect with one another and gain valuable leadership and organizational management skills.

The human need to communicate personal experiences makes storytelling a natural way to express ourselves. We can increase our interest, empathy, trust, and sense of connection through listening to, and telling, stories. A recent study found that women are four times more likely to assume that someone will respond negatively to what we have to say and so we qualify our opinion to mitigate the risk. We may use phrases like, “Correct me if I’m wrong…” or “I know I’m not the expert on this…“ or “It’s just my opinion, but…” Learning to tell our stories, without qualifying statements, is an important way to boost not only our own self esteem, but the value we bring to all the spaces we occupy.

Join us for a two part series where we will work to improve the way we tell our personal and professional stories. You will receive feedback throughout the revision process and have an opportunity to share with the group iA!
