About heARTwork

We carry so much in our hearts as women, as Muslims, as daughters, as mothers, as partners, and as friends. We are creating a space for you to connect with other Muslim women, and have conversations about our lives, our struggles, and our stories while working on creative projects as a form of expression and release.

Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ

This is the blessed month of Rabi’ Al-Awwal, an important month in the Islamic Calendar as it marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. There are so many precious and beautiful qualities of the blessed Prophet ﷺ that we can benefit from and strive to embody all year round. Our beloved sister Farhana Yunus will share stories about the life of the Prophet ﷺ and we will discuss which of his qualities we are inspired by, connect with, and relate to or are striving to build within us.

During our discussion, we will create a piece of calligraphy, writing one of the Prophet’s ﷺ names as a form of salawat or durood. For centuries, the art of writing has fulfilled a central iconographic function in Islamic art, Islamic calligraphy is the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy. The development of Islamic calligraphy is strongly tied to the Qur'an; chapters and excerpts from the Qur'an are a common and almost universal text upon which Islamic calligraphy is based. This is a beautiful way to unwind and create something beautiful while sending peace and blessings upon our Prophet ﷺ. No experience is required! All supplies will be provided. Drinks and snacks will also be available.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED! Cost: $15/person (This helps us pay for supplies and food). For those who are facing financial challenges, you can reserve your spot for $5 and we will cover the cost of your supplies. REGISTER and/or DONATE to support this event here or by clicking below.
