Art and Poetry have a longstanding collaborative tradition in Ekphrasis [ek fray sis], the practice of writing a vivid description or poem in response to a work of art. Reverse Ekphrasis is the practice of creating visual representations in response to the written word.

The Reverse Ekphrasis Art Show by Thousand Languages Project features visual pieces created by artists from across the country in response to “When Her Body is a Battleground.” A poem by Kimberley Blaeser that addresses the violence indigenous women face. Attendees will have the opportunity to respond to the works of art using Ekphrasis to create their own poems.
