WOMEN’S HEALTH MATTERS: ADDICTION

The stigma that many Muslims associate with substance abuse and addiction cause these problems to be kept hidden from friends and family. In addition to fears of embarrassment, Muslims could fear bringing shame to their loved ones. This makes it hard for many Muslims to seek treatment at a drug or alcohol rehab facility. Addiction, however, is a disease that is impacted by biological, social, and environmental factors, and it requires treatment like any other disease.
